New exhibition from Akram Dost Baloch in Dubai in January

There’s a new exhibition at Studio Seven Art Gallery next week, so if you’re looking to get a cultural fix in this New Year, it’s time to check it out.

Award-winning artist Akram Dost Baloch’s solo exhibition, themed “Identity” is open from Tuesday January 7 until Thursday January 9 at the gallery in Dubai’s Business Bay.

The exhibition portrays prominent themes of human rights, and the arts is a recipient of the Pakistan’s Pride of Performance award.

Akram Dost Baloch, who is from Pakistan, is a graduate of the National College of Arts, Lahore, and is based in Quetta, where he chairs The Institute of Fine Arts at University of Balochistan.

“This show will focus on the search for identity; to some extent I have tried to portray my culture and tradition whether it be the embroidery or the appearances,” he said. “This is my personal attempt to chronicle human experience in an age in which apathy, detachment, and spiritual absence have the potential to mute our best insights. My recent body of work aims to express social, political and economic anxieties prevalent in our society.”
