Dubai’s Jameel Arts Centre reopens with new solo exhibitions

While there have been plenty of virtual art exhibitions and shows to keep us entertained at home, those looking to get their art fix in person can now head to the Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai.

Completely free to explore for all, the art centre is now open from 6am to 10pm from Wednesday to Monday, with social distancing measures in place to keep everyone safe.

Art enthusiasts can check out three floors of exhibitions and installations, Art Jameel Shop, the Artist’s Garden, seven desert gardens, and Jaddaf Waterfront Sculpture Park.

Along with its current exhibitions including Iraqi-American artist Michael Rakowitz’s first major solo exhibition in Asia and the Middle East, there are three new solo exhibitions to explore.

First off, art film fans can see the regional premiere of In Vitro, a highly-acclaimed two-channel film installation by Larissa Sansour that debuted at the 58th Venice Biennale. There’s also a set of 60 etchings by artist Taysir Batniji titled To My Brother, exploring loss and memory.

Finally, the multi-award-winning Lawrence Abu Hamdan will be premiering an audio-visual installation This Whole Time There Were No Landmines.

Jameel Arts Centre encourages those who visit to book a two hour timeslot before visiting – all to safely limit the amount of visitors at one time. Head to to book a spot.

That’s not all, as there’s also a selection of free workshops online for artists of all ages to check out, including painting the Flower of Life design in coffee and making home decorations with Rana AlAmoudi, and making traditional kites at home with The Aleph Journal.
