Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with all the exciting developments at Alserkal. From the brilliant film festivals, to the exciting art exhibitions, to the great food options, this space is incredibly cool.
It’s about to get even more exciting, since in September Alserkal is welcoming a new gallery: Volte Art Projects. The gallery will sit on the Avenue between 1×1 Art Gallery and Ayyam Gallery, and plans to bring big-name artists into the Dubai arts scene.
You can expect to see around three exhibitions per year in this space, which promises huge shows with both established names and emerging artists. The programme is a diversion from the regular monthly schedule of gallery exhibitions, but leaves room for the reduced amount to have an even higher impact.

The first show at Volte is expected to be centred around the intersection of art, nature, and technology and includes artists from Europe, South Africa, India, and the United States. It will open in September, with the exact date to be decided. Watch this space.
Volte originated in Mumbai and has shown a mix of international artists, including Wim Delvoye, James Turrell, William Kentridge, and Nalini Malani. It was founded by Tushar Jiwarajka in 2009. Jiwarajka has since staged shows with major international artists, and has supported others around the world.
If you haven’t been to Alserkal yet (how?) it’s one of the coolest art spaces you can find in Dubai. Located in Al Quoz, it features a whole roster of funky galleries such as 1X1 Gallery, Carbon 12, and Gulf Photo Plus. That’s not even mentioning its other communal spaces, such as the upcycled workshop café KAVE, and ultra-cool movie theatre Cinema Akil. Want to know more? We’ll see you there, checking out the artwork at Volte Art Projects, come September.
