A “post-modern dance-theatre rom-com” performance is coming to Dubai, and you'd best believe it ticks all the right boxes for great entertainment.
NYC-based theatre Loom Ensemble returns for its sixth year in the city – with 12 performers showcasing a combination of dance, physical theatre, acting, and original music.
Taking place at Alserkal Avenue, the “Default Mind” show boasts local talent alongside NYC professionals Neva Cockrell and Raphael Sacks.
The performance follows Ted and Melaina as they struggle for their own wellbeing against the Body Shame Industrial Complex and a culture of self-hate. Audiences can expect a hilarious view into each character's emotional life as their “subconscious gremlins shake them to the bones”. We’re intrigued.
Pique your interest? The 75-minute show will take place on Thursday March 28 and Friday March 29, and the following week on Thursday April 4 and Friday 5 from 8pm onwards.
Loom co-founder Raphael Sacks said: “It’s been amazing to witness the blossoming of contemporary art culture in Dubai.
“Even just since 2012 when we first starting teaching and performing at thejamjar, UAE has shown just how much excellent potential there is for a fully homegrown, grassroots professional dance and theater community right here in Dubai.”
Loom Ensemble’s work aims to bring inspiration to the local community, and also spotlights the skills of local artists collaborating with these New York professionals.
Previous Loom Ensemble performances in Dubai have hosted other artists from New York City, and toured to Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and abroad to Italy, Belgium to Stockholm, Berlin, New York and Colorado.
If you’re feeling all the artsy vibes, you’ll definitely want to check out the three-day annual event Art Dubai at Madinat Jumeirah from Wednesday March 20 until Saturday March 23.
We can’t wait.
