Dubai International Airport launches brand-new lounge for kids

Sending the kids back to the family overseas but can’t tag along with them? As The Who once sang, the kids will be alright with this new dedicated lounge for unaccompanied young flyers.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has launched a new airport lounge designed for little ones flying alone, with a list of games and more to keep them entertained.

Backed by dnata, one of the world’s largest air services providers, the new lounge can be found in Terminal 1 decorated with colours and plenty of screens. It's open 24 hours a day, too.

The lounge will be operated by multilingual staff, who will take care of the young flyers by assisting them by making sure they departure gates on time and receive priority boarding. And of course keep them safe and entertained.

“We have earned the trust of thousands of parents with our safe and reliable services for unaccompanied minors over the past years,” said dnata divisional senior vice president of UAE Airport Operations Steve Allen.

“We are delighted to add more value to our offering and further enhance young passengers’ travel experience by opening our new lounge, which has been specifically designed to meet the needs and taste of children of all ages.”

The new lounge follows dnata’s service to assist unaccompanied young travellers, with the team helping more than 8,000 flyers in 2018 – 27 percent more than the past five years.

The aim is to give parents peace of mind when their children travel alone, and to teach them how to go through various channels from checking-in to boarding.

In other airport news, DXB will trial passport and boarding pass-free experience, which means a visit to DXB could be paperless and hassle-free in the near future.

Looking for someplace to get some shut eye in DXB? Here are three essential places to rest your head and sleep. And no, we don’t mean the hard floor.
