Dubai International Airport, also known as DXB, is less a gateway between destinations – and much more a destination in its own right. Across three terminals, the airport is home to a huge variety of restaurants, fast food chains, shops and spas. It also has a number of bars throughout its concourses.

DXB isn’t short of stellar restaurants, cafés and bars, and at the end of 2019 Italian restaurant and bar Bottega joined the list. From a family renowned for its production of Italian bubbly, the restaurant promises a whole range of eats and more than 20 different drinks using Bottega produce. Dishes meanwhile include creamy risotto balls filled with spinach, ricotta and provola cheese, deep-fried crumbed green olives stuffed with mozzarella (be still, our beating hearts), and fresh sourdough topped with sweet cherry tomatoes, garlic and basil.

An Asian restaurant with a large central island bar, Cho Gao is generally not one of the best-maintained bars in Dubai International, but if you’ve a hankering for a bowl of edamame or crispy calamari with your drink, it’ll hit the spot, and the food is generally good. Breakfast is also available, typically from 5am to 10am, featuring options included congee, Thai yum khai dao (fried egg salad), pastries and an American-style cooked breakfast.

An American bar themed around the renowned Tennessee beverage, expect drinks on tap, themed mixology, a menu crammed with wings, burgers and the like, and sport beamed from a couple of TV screens dotted around the place. The bar also serves breakfast all day – handy if you’re connecting and can’t for the life of you remember which time zone you’re in. (Well, that’s our excuse and we’re sticking to it.)
