Just when we thought we were getting to grips with all those different Spider-Man movies, along came a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to confuse us with even more versions of the wall-crawler.

But this isn’t any old run-of-the-mill flick about our favourite friendly-neighbourhood superhero. It gives fans young and old a fresh new look at what it takes to become Spider-Man – from its bonkers list of new characters to an action-packed and hilarious story.

Critics are already raving about it too, as it’s even getting a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture - Animated 2018. And you’ll quickly see why with its gorgeous animated style that needs to be seen on the big screen to fully appreciate it.

Based on the popular Spider-Verse comic book – and amazingly keeping with its original comic book style – this one introduces a shared multiverse where all Spider-Man iterations come together to save the day.

Taking centre stage is Brooklyn teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), a high school student who is forced to juggle homework with superhero responsibilities when bitten by a radioactive spider.

Struggling to get a grip with the wise, age-old saying “with great power, comes great responsibility”, his world is turned upside-down when he meets a much older Peter Parker, an extremely cool Spider-Gwen and a whole bunch of misfits from different universes.

This isn’t a story just about Peter Parker anymore. It’s about the symbol the web-slinger represents, and how anyone has the makings to be a true hero no matter where they come from.

As unique and cool as each Spidey is, from Nicholas Cage’s Spiderman Noir to Penni Parker, a Japanese anime Spidey, it’s fan-favourite Spider-Gwen that steals the show.

Played by Hailee Steinfeld, Spider-Gwen herself had this to say: "I get to play a female superhero, which was pretty cool -- and not just any female superhero, but the first Spider-Woman.

"That was so exciting to me, and the fact that she really is the toughest, coolest, smartest and the most capable one in the room, and she knows it."

Whether you’re a long-time fan or it’s your first viewing of the wall crawler in action, Into the Spider-Verse is one not to be missed in cinemas.

With a heart-warming story about the friendship, courage and the pressures of daily teenage life, an extremely witty and laugh-out-loud script, along with brilliant web-slinging action, this is a Spidey flick like no other.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is out right now, and you can catch it at Vox Cinemas, Novo Cinemas, Roxy Cinemas and Reel Cinemas at various locations around Dubai.
