Movie fans, get excited – Sharjah Film Platform is back this week and you won’t want to miss it.

Sharjah Art Foundation’s annual film festival showcases more than 50 movies between December 14 and December 21.

Films range from documentaries to experimental movies, and with prices from Dhs15 for students, Dhs20 for general admission or Dhs100 for access to every single film on show, you’ll struggle to find a better bargain.

This year, you’ll get the chance to see three movies funded by the Short Film Production Grant, including Faisal Attrache’s From the Mountain which explores a 1922 Syrian farmer’s dilemma about whether to fight for a better nation or ensure the protection of his family.

The festival is a great opportunity to take advantage of the winter weather at the foundation’s open-air outdoor Mirage City Cinema, or to experience one of Sharjah’s oldest movie theatres at Al Hamra Cinema.

And, if you still haven’t visited the Rain Room, you can walk there from any of the venues and check out some of the other exhibitions on show.

If you’re a proper film buff and want to learn more about the industry, there are plenty of free talks and workshops you can attend too, all held at the 174-year old heritage site Bait Obaid Al Shamsi.

You’ll get to hear from top filmmakers as well as artists and industry professionals, plus learn about improvisation and film criticism.

All you need to do is register for talks on the Sharjah Art Foundation website sharjahart.org, which also has a full film, talk and workshop programme for you to browse.

You can pick up your tickets now from the foundation’s information centre in Al Mureijah Art Spaces in Al Mureijah Square, or at Mirage City Cinema and Al Hamra Cinema.
