Drive-in cinemas to check out in the UAE

Who knew the old-school way of watching movies was actually one of the best ways to catch a big blockbuster in the UAE?

Drive-in cinemas have been popping up in light of social distancing measures, which means filmgoers find an ideal parking spot, switch on the radio and watch big blockbusters – one even with the Burj Khalifa in the background.

Now, let’s stuff our cars full of pillows and snacks and head to these drive-in cinemas in Dubai and Sharjah.

Reel Cinemas Drive-in

Reel Cinemas in Dubai has launched its first drive-in movie theatre experience at The Dubai Mall Zabeel, and it has the Burj Khalifa as its backdrop. Not a bad way to head to the movies. Set on the rooftop parking space of the new The Dubai Mall, drivers will be allocated a parking space, according their car size and then will only need to tune their car radios to a set FM frequency to hear it. Tickets are priced at Dhs170 per car for two people, and it includes one cheese popcorn, one salt popcorn, regular nachos, two chocolates of choice, two soft drinks and two bottles of water.

Movies being shown include Fast and Furious Hobbs and Shaw, Bloodshot, Bombshell, 21 Bridges, The Hustle, Rambo Last Blood, Gemini Man, Bad Boys for Life, The Gentleman and more.

Reel Cinemas – Dubai Hills Estate

After the launch of its first drive-in experience at The Dubai Mall, the Dubai-based cinema chain will open a new drive-in film experience at The Dubai Hills Estate. Kicking off from Thursday (June 25) and throughout the rest of summer in Dubai , the space can be found between Mulberry 2 and Central Park in the residential area. Like its first drive-in cinema, tickets are priced at Dhs170 per car, with food and drinks included as a combo meal for two including one cheese popcorn, one salt popcorn, one regular nachos, two chocolates, two soft drinks and two bottles of water. As for the current line-up of big family-friendly blockbusters, one screening will take place each night, with each movie starting at 8pm.

Vox Cinemas Drive-in

Transforming its rooftop to an outdoor cinema, Vox Cinemas at Mal of the Emirates has brought the silver screen outdoors once again. Screenings will take place at 7.30pm each evening, and audiences can tune into a designated radio frequency for the movie audio to be streamed straight into their car once parked. The movie experience is priced at Dhs180 per car, for a maximum of two people, and includes the movie along with a food and beverage package with caramel popcorn, salt popcorn, nachos, M&Ms, soft drinks and water.

Movie Nights at Aljada

The best kind of movies? The ones we get to see for free, and the upcoming Movie Nights at Aljada, a drive-in cinema with daily shows, will deliver just that. Completely free of charge to enter, the permanent drive-in cinema will have room for 150 vehicles, where filmgoers can tune in via FM radio. That’s not all, as audeinces can also order dishes from 17 different outlets from the Zad food district. Oh, no need to step out, as the food will be delivered directly to the car. Get comfy. Movies will screen daily from 8pm onwards, and the schedule of movies will be announced before its launch via www.aljada.com.
