Dubai’s Cinema Akil reopens with social distancing measures

As restrictions ease in Dubai, popular indie spot Cinema Akil has reopened its doors, opening with new film A Trip To Greece.

Film-goers must book their tickets to each screening online, with one screening taking place each night from 6pm until 9pm from Tuesday to Saturday. Head to to get a spot.

The indie cinema has redesigned its space in accordance to social distancing guidelines, reducing its capacity to 30 percent per screening and rearranging seats to make sure audiences are two metres apart.

Masks must be worn by staff and visitors, and there will be temperature checks before entering the cinema at Alserkal Avenue.

As for the flick, Michael Winterbottom’s A Trip to Greece will be shown from Tuesday June 16 and follows British comedic duo, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon on a personal odyssey, as they argue about tragedy and comedy, astronomy and biology, myth, history, democracy and the meaning of life.

If you’re looking for some bites along with some signature karak chai, Project Chaiwala will be open on the same days from 1pm until 9pm.
