Let’s not kid ourselves, Avengers: Infinity War is probably the biggest movie of the year, Marvel fan or not. Ever since Robert Downey Jr. rocked up on screen as Iron Man and introduced us to the Marvel Cinematic Universe a decade ago, every movie has been leading up to this event.
Crowds have been waiting in anticipation for years, getting a glimpse of what’s to come by waiting an extra ten minutes for a post credit scene. Some of them have been helpful, with subtle drops of where the Infinite Stones have been placed, while others have mocked us for waiting.
We know all about the big bad Thanos (Josh Brolin), an overlord whose goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. We also know how strong he is, which is why the whole gang will be there to stop him – from the patriotic and now grizzly Captain America to our beloved gun-toting space raccoon, Rocket and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Judging from the trailers, it looks like our heros are in for a world of hurt, with three of them – Thor, Captain America and Doctor Strange – roaring in pain during their battle with the intergalactic force. We’re guessing someone is going to get the chop, with true Avengers movie flair. Who is anyone’s guess (although our money is on Doctor Strange, sorry Benedict Cumberbatch).
With the Russo Brothers directing, who made the brilliant Captain America: Winter Soldier, we’re in for a treat. It’s also the very first summer movie to kick off the season, so good luck to the rest of the films following this mash-up of our favourite superheroes saving the world.
The bottom line
The pinnacle of superhero movies has arrived.
