Prince of Persia

Jake Gyllenhaal beefs up for this computer-game-inspired Arabian adventure

The Pitch

Gyllenhaal beefs up and turns action hero for this computer-game-inspired Arabian adventure from ‘Four Weddings’ director Mike Newell. The plot involves a dagger that can turn back time – but no one’s going to ‘Prince of Persia’ for the plot.

The word

The trailer makes it look like a classic British Boy’s Own adventure enhanced with the kind of all-kicking, all-punching action antics that made the game so popular: think ‘The Thief of Bagdad’ meets ‘Street Fighter’. Gyllenhaal’s mockney accent may prove a sticking point for British audiences, but the presence of local girl Arterton should sweeten the deal.
