Chain Letter

Low-budget horror hits UAE this week. For some reason …

We’re not quite sure why this flimsy-looking, low-rent horror/thriller is landing in the UAE this week. Chain Letter only enjoyed a limited release in the US, where it was made – reclaiming just Dhs525,000 of its meagre Dhs18 million budget – and has never seen the light of day in western Europe. It has, however, proved more popular in Russia. Director Deon Taylor is best known for a few American TV shows, so it can only be star Nikki Reed’s sudden appearance in the latter half of the Twilight Saga (starting from 2010’s Eclipse as Roalie Hale), which has prompted this reassessment. With a Rotten Tomatoes approval rate of just 25 per cent, we’re not terribly optimistic.
