Films aren’t just shown at the cinema – take a look at some of the city’s more unusual places to catch a flick
Dubai’s ‘socially active’ gym runs a full calendar of events for members and friends – from pool parties to scuba outings. Film screenings take place regularly, with event dates and timings featured on the gym’s website. At the end of November, members and guests met for a showing of comedy flick Bridesmaids. Check out this swanky nightspot’s dinner and a movie nights, which take place on Mondays. The focus is on showing some of the best films in cinematic history, rather than the latest Hollywood blockbusters – and you certainly won’t find any animations on the roster.

This casual Dubai Marina pizza joint not only serves up gluten-free crusts, it has also recently branched out into regular film screenings. What’s on offer changes week-to-week, with kids’, Hollywood and even Bollywood flicks played on the screen.

Wafi’s long-running open-air Movies Under the Stars night resumed at the end of October, and shows a movie for free every Sunday evening from 8.30pm. Punters are invited to pull up a bean bag and grab some popcorn or a hotdog to enjoy with a cold drink.
