Burj Khalifa stars in new Independence Day trailer

Time Out has the video which shows more of the Burj Khalifa in new Independence Day trailer, used as a spear to attack London. See it here

We know it's only a Hollywood stunt, but there's something really quite uncomfortable about seeing our beloved Burj Khalifa being used as a spear by aliens to destroy London.

But that's exactly what happens in the summer blockbuster, Independence Day: Resurgence.

Footage in the new trailer for the film, which hits screens in July, shows the world's tallest building flipped on its head and sent crashing into the centre of the British capital, along with a number of other iconic world landmarks.

Its appearance is brief - much like it had been in a small teaser shown during February's Superbowl half-time - but no less shocking, with a new angle showing the point of impact from directly beside it.

More of the plot to the film, which is the follow up to the 1996 smash hit starring Will Smith, is revealed, too.

It seems the extra-terrestrials, defeated so spectacularly by Jeff Goldblum (who returns here) and Smith 20 years ago, are back on a revenge mission, and this time they're bigger, badder and better prepared.

Where before the visitors' main form of attack was an impenetrable defence, here they have their own gravity, hence the ability to seemingly 'pick up' the Burj Khalifa and chuck it halfway around the world. They give the same treatment to Kuala Lumpur's Petronas Twin Towers and Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands, among others.

CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF (the Burj Khalifa can be seen around the 1min 10secs mark)

The official film synopsis reads: "Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."

It also appears the two children from the original - Smith's stepson and the Presidents' daughter - are set to play major roles alongside a number of returning stars.
