Helipad cinema comes to Dubai

Free tickets in exchange for receipts at Dubai Festival City

Films

A helipad cinema is coming to town, and this may well be one of the coolest ideas we’ve seen in some time.

Head on over to Dubai Festival City Mall before the summer season kicks in, and over the next six weeks you’ll be in for a treat. By going into the mall and buying anything, literally anything, you’ll be given a ticket to go see a free movie at the specially designed outdoor cinema that has been constructed for it.

Now, we love a good outdoor winter pop-up. We’re big fans of the DXBExperiments pop-up bar The Garden, currently found at Le Royal Méridien Beach Resort & Spa, which is well worth a visit, for example. But when you chuck a good movie (and a helipad) into the winter pop-up mix, we’re all ears.

The helipad cinema at Dubai Festival City Mall is an outdoor movie theatre for the winter months, showing six different films over the next six weeks. Starting on Wednesday February 21, you’ll be able to catch some top titles including Valerian & The City of A Thousand Planets, Monster Family and Power Rangers.

When you present any receipt from a purchase made inside Dubai Festival City Mall, you’ll be given your free movie stub.

The full list of movies on show at the Helipad Cinema – we still can’t get over that name – is:

February 21-24 - Overdrive
March 1-3 – Power Rangers
March 8-10 – Valerian & the City of a Thousand Planets
March 15-17 – Monster Family
March 22-24 – Florence Foster Jenkins
March 29-31 – All Nighter

More movies will be announced shortly, with the cinema open until April 15. Showings begin from 8pm.
