Dubai loves food. From fine dining dinner dates to grabbing a quick burger or sundae, there’s always time to eat, especially when you’re at the mall.

Time Out Dubai’s LOVE FOOD Awards at The Dubai Mall ran for the first time ever in February 2019 as part of the Dubai Food Festival campaign.

With hundreds of eateries from cute cafés to fancy Italian restaurants, via some globally popular fast food chains, the Downtown shopping centre has heaps to satisfy any taste.

Here are the top five in each category – with results on Wednesday March 6, stay tuned to to find out the winners...

Best Family

1 Cheesecake Factory

Boasting more than 250 menu items and 50 signature cheesecakes and desserts made from scratch daily, the menu also offers starters and entrees such as chicken, pasta and burgers.

2 Red Lobster
If you have a seafood-loving family then this international chain will be on your regular dining list. Serving up a whole load of fresh fish dishes – including a top-notch signature lobster roll.

3 Carluccio’s
Only dried pasta from family-run producers in Italy will do at this contemporary cafe-deli. Expect soups, antipasti, salads, risotto, pastas, handmade focaccia and a kids’ menu at this top family-friendly chain. Vegans are also catered for.

4 Chili’s
From boneless buffalo wings and spicy shrimp tacos to classic nachos, bacon burgers and molten chocolate cake, this Tex-Mex inspired American star ticks all the classic boxes.

5 P.F. Chang’s
Founded in Arizona in 1993, P.F. Chang’s serves a blend of American and Chinese cuisine. Think California rolls, dynamite shrimp, crab bites, dim sum and salt and pepper calamari. Make sure you leave room for dessert and sweet treats including banana spring rolls and New York cheesecake.

Best Fast Food

1 Debonairs Pizza

Choose your own pizza size, base and toppings at Debonairs, the leading pizza restaurant in Africa, known for its innovative triple-decker and crammed-crust pizzas.

2 Five Guys
This popular American family-run burger grill joint has expanded to just under 1,400 locations worldwide thanks to its hand-formed, juicy burgers, freshly baked buns and fresh-cut fries. Hot dogs are another popular choice, and for good reason.

3 Jollibee
Fast and affordable hot dishes are the order of play at Jollibee including pancakes, spaghetti, chicken tenders, pasta, hot dogs, burgers and fries all washed doen with refreshing iced tea.

4 Shake Shack
A New York City cult favourite since 2004, Shake Shack is a modern ‘roadside’ burger stand serving made-to-order quality burgers, flat-top hot dogs, frozen custard, shakes and more.

5 McDonald’s
The menu at the world’s largest fast food chain is no surprise and delivers on value for money with its burgers, sandwiches, fries, salads and combo meals.

Best Fountain View

1 Walnut Grove

This fancy new spot in The Dubai Mall has heaps of cakes, superb breakfasts, and best of all, excellent views of the Burj Khalifa. It never gets old.

2 Red Lobster
What’s better than digging into fresh seafood with water views? This might not be the seaside, but the view from Red Lobster’s dining area of The Dubai Fountain is just as delightful.

Whether you’re after super-tasty meat patties, or deliciously gooey grilled cheese sandwiches, there are loads of fast food options at this US chain. But the special thing about The Dubai Mall branch? It also boasts views of The Dubai Fountain, for a side of dancing jets with your deep-fried stack.

If you have visitors in town, and want them to try some modern Emirati cuisine, Logma needs to be on your to-do list. Especially this branch, as the views from the third floor are particularly wow-worthy.

Best Home-Grown Concept

1 Shakespeare and Co

The menu at this Victorian era-themed restaurant is as eclectic as the décor, featuring all-day breakfasts, lunches and dinners as well as a wide range of cakes, chocolates and sweets.

2 Logma
Logma (Arabic for mouthful) offers modern Khaleeji food using traditional Emirati ingredients in an urban setting, featuring chebab, khameer sandwiches and tasty parathas.

3 Parker’s
Serving up plates of nostalgia such as street fries, crispy chicken strips and sliders, the ‘back to school’ retro feel is enhanced with wooden tables and tins of Rainbow Milk doubling as cutlery and napkin holders. Don’t miss the decadent chocolate brownie. It’s delicious.

4 Vintage Chocolate Lounge
This delightful chocolate café offers a range of signature desserts such as truffles, hot and cold chocolate-based desserts, drinks and chocolates plus pastas, sandwiches and more.

5 Galeries Lafayette Le Gourmet
This restaurant was set up in 2009 and serves up a range of flavours from all over the world. Set in the popular department store, there’s plenty to refuel you during a shopping spree. Dishes include curries, noodles, dim sum, pizzas and more.

Best International

1 Cheesecake Factory

Whether you’re after a juicy burger, a mountain of nachos, a fresh and flavoursome salad or a platter of pasta you’ll find it here. With a massive range of dishes (and equally massive portion sizes) this globally popular restaurant is a hit with all ages, and it’s clear to see why. There’s also a low-calorie menu featuring the likes of minced chicken tacos with lettuce cups, but for us it’s all about that scrumptious cheesecake.

2 Red Lobster
Live Maine lobster. Shrimp linguini alfredo. Snow crab legs. Tuna poke tasting plate. The sailor’s platter... Red Lobster is renowned for a deliciously fresh seafood.

3 Carluccio’s
A staple around the UAE – and on many high streets in the UK – this popular Italian chain is an ideal pit-stop whatever mood you’re in. From massive pizzas to healthy salads, there loads of choice. We love the giardiniara pasta from the restaurant’s founder, the late Antonio Carluccio.

4 Walnut Grove
This boutique restaurant from South Africa serves fresh, rustic, Mediterranean salads, gourmet sandwiches and burgers alongside juices and coffees. It’s also kown for its Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-style puddings, including a wondrous cake tasting board filled with all of the best-selling cakes of the day. Think brownies, doughnuts and lashings of Nutella.

5 Chili’s
This US chain serves up monster dishes. From quesadillas to Cajun pasta, via a serving of crispy chicken, there’s sure to be something to pique your interest at Chili’s.

Best Middle Eastern

1 Al Hallab

Expect authentic Lebanese gastronomy including mezza and grills at this specialty restaurant featuring a terrace with stunning views over The Dubai Fountain and the Burj Khalifa.

2 Hatam
Popular across the UAE for traditional dishes such as kebabs, moulabal and grills, and delicious fresh juices. Enjoy an authentic Persian atmosphere in this casual Iranian eatery.

3 Logma
Set in the Fashion Avenue section of The Dubai Mall, this large modern Emirati restaurant has an extensive menu. Our advice, don’t miss the lugaimat – a deliciously sweet traditional dessert.

4 Wafi Gourmet
Connoisseurs of authentic Lebanese Cuisine will find it difficult to ignore these mouth-watering temptations; lamb kebab, chicken biryani, shawarma and baklava.

5 Café Blanc
Best-selling Lebanese dishes include fatteh shish barak, shish barak, hummus shawarma chicken, mezze and tabbouleh at Café Blanc, where a lovely outdoor area grants breathtaking views of the Dubai Fountain.

Best Pan-Asian

1 P.F. Chang’s

Two words. Dynamite. Shrimp. This globally popular chain is world-famous for its excellent Asian food. Quick, tasty and of top quality – portion sizes are generous and the range of dishes is top. From stir-fries to the famous chicken lettuce wraps, there’s loads to love here.

2 Soy
A modern Asian dining concept offering familiar Chinese flavours imbued with a taste of the far-east, featuring curries and noodles plus a Mongolian grill and yum cha.

3 Din Tai Fung
Dotty for dim sum? This Taiwanese chain specialises in xiaolongbao and Huaiyang cuisine; voted one of the top 10 restaurants in the world by the New York Times. It’s also easy on the pocket, with a hearty meal for two coming in at less than Dhs200. Think endless baskets of moreish dim sum, noodles and fragrant soups.

4 Wagamama
Inspired by fast-paced, Japanese ramen bars, Wagamama celebrates Asian fusion by offering a range of satisfying favourites such as ramen, donburi, yaki soba and katsu curry. Don’t miss the spicy Firecracker curry – it’s an absolute classic.

5 YO! Sushi
Founded by Simon Woodroffe in 1997, the conveyor belt sushi concept offers diners more than 100 fresh Japanese hot and cold dishes in the fast-paced and fun YO! Sushi environment.

Best Place To Grab A Coffee

1 Starbucks

There aren’t many corners of the world untouched by Starbucks and its menu is as diverse as their reach; breakfast, salads, sandwiches, protein bowls and cakes are served alongside a range of coffee blends using various types of milk including soy, almond and low-fat.

This speciality coffee store from Kyoto roasts the best coffee from around the world, including from its own coffee farm. The interior boasts a beautiful Japanese minimalistic design.

3 Rubicons Coffee
Roasting the world’s best beans from Colombia, Rubicons Coffee is on a mission to become the coffee house of choice with a generous side of sandwiches, cakes and indulgent shakes.

4 Tim Hortons
This Canadian fast food restaurant chain is renowned for its coffee and doughnuts but that’s not all – expect sandwiches and salads, soups, snacks and a breakfast menu including a halloumi mint muffin and a turkey, sausage and egg masterpiece.

5 Costa Coffee
Founded by Italian brothers Bruno and Sergio Costa in 1971 and now the largest coffeehouse chain in the UK, expect premium Italian coffee, savoury snacks,
cakes and pastries.

Best Sweet Corner

1 Cheesecake Factory

The clue’s in the name with this one. With more than 50 cheesecakes and desserts on the menu there’s loads on offer here to satisfy any sweet tooth. Flavours of cheesecake range from cherry to peanut butter, to white chocolate and raspberry.
Grab a slice to take home, too.

2 Baskin Robbins
There’s no ice cream stone left unturned by the world’s largest chain of ice cream stores. Enjoy your treat with seasonal flavours in tasty cups and cones, sundaes, parfaits and beverages.

3 Cinnabon
Known for its delicious oven-hot cinnamon rolls, freshly baked treats and frozen drinks, Cinnabon has been delighting taste buds across the globe since 1985.

4 Angelina
Famous for its hot chocolate and pastries, this elegant tea-house from Paris symbolises the “French way of life”, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. You can even buy their hot chocolate mix and make it at home.

5 Paul Bakery & Restaurant
A tantalising taste of France, Paul Café offers exquisite breads, crepes and pastries; tempting macarons, cakes and desserts; alongside savoury salads, sandwiches and light main courses.

1 Eataly

Born in Turin in 2007, the idea behind Eataly is simple: to gather high-quality, sustainable, artisan Italian foods under one roof. A marketplace as well as an eatery, this is the place to go to not only eat but to shop for and be educated about Italian food.

2 Hurricane’s Grill
An Australian family-style steakhouse with South African and Portuguese influences, Hurricane’s is loved for juicy steaks and tasty ribs in their famous basting, plus a wide variety of fresh seafood, succulent lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes and a tasty kids menu.

3 Al Hallab
If you’re after Arabic sweets and pastries this is a top spot to visit. However it’s not all about the desserts, this spot does a range of excellent mezze, plus specials that change daily. The breakfasts are top, too.

4 Din Tai Fung
Founded in Taiwan in 1972, this restaurant chain (which was awarded a Michelin star in Hong Kong) specialises in xiaolongbao and Huaiyang cuisine. It has an extensive menu of dim sum, and diners here in Dubai can’t get enough.

5 Parker’s
This cool home-grown eatery has a menu full of comfort food classics. Whether you’re after massive desserts, juicy burgers, piles of nachos, pasta or more, there’s loads to try at Parker’s.
