If you’re in the mood for a proper breakfast, hearty lunch or quick dinner, Jones the Grocer’s new spot at The Dubai Mall is bound do do the trick, and your tummy will thank you too.

We stop by on a weekend. There’s busy, and then there’s Jones the Grocer busy. It might have something to do with the fact that kids eat and play for free (who can complain at that), and we see little ones happily munching on fries and having
the time of their lives.

There are big families chuckling and mums having long chats amid the clunks of cutlery and swift servers welcoming guests and taking orders.

The Australian chain is well-known for its charcuterie, so we opt for the cured and curd platter, and we’re impressed by the spread. Delicate slices of fresh veal chorizo, truffled salami and fatty smoked duck are carefully laid on the wooden board.

There’s also a selection of cheeses, which perfectly complements the meats. Think truffled brie and Shropshire blue, along with big olives and quince paste for a bit of sweetness.

The board’s balanced selection is satisfying and leaves us feeling as though we’d just returned from a trip to the Mediterranean, only to be reminded by the strong lighting that we’re still very much in the mall.

We also try the roast chicken and avocado sandwich. It’s a lot smaller than we had imagined, but one of the best sarnies we’ve ever had. The confit garlic aioli and crispy beef bacon add an oomph to the roasted chicken – it’s more gobble-it-down shawarma than stale deli, and we can’t complain.

It’s only natural that we end the meal with a good cup of capuccino. A bit strong for our taste, it did provide just the right dose of coffee.

Jones the Grocer is a bustling Dubai Mall eatery with Fountain-view outdoor seating and a kids’ menu that’s family-friendly and just pure fun. If you’re in the mall – this is your new go-to spot.
Open daily 9am-midnight. Unlicensed. The Dubai Mall, Downtown Dubai (04 526 0083).
