Review: The Duck Hook

Have your own flock of ducklings? Not literally, but if you’re looking for somewhere to feed hungry little mouths, The Duck Hook is a decent addition to an area popular with families.

And parents, if you’re a golfer, chances are you’ve heard the rest of your four ball waxing lyrical about the Scotch egg. Fitting then that this spot’s riff on the classic is made of confit duck leg, wrapped around a runny duck egg. Oh go on then.

Named after a shot that curves hard to the left, The Duck Hook is not your ordinary 19th hole. And never less that than when you’re reclined outside (in cooler weather), soaking up the views of Downtown Dubai as the kids run around on the grass.

The menu features a range of swankified pub classics and there’s also a “ducklings” menu, with dishes including fish finger sarnies, chicken nuggets, scrambled eggs and mini hotdogs all at around Dhs30.

For adults, fish and chips is a solid choice, with great colour and crunch to the batter. While the pies, fully clothed in flaky pastry, fare better than a bland chicken curry.

This golf club spot has promise, but is still a way off challenging the city’s top pub grub spots.
Open Sat-Wed noon-midnight, Thu-Fri noon-1am. Licensed. Dubai Hills Golf Club, Al Khail Road, Dubai (800 666 353).
