Time Out Dubai Nightlife Awards 2012
The Underground Pub: Despite being themed on the London Underground, sport is what transports this place along on a daily basis. Perpetually busy, with screens sprouting from every nook, and strategically located in the heart of ‘new Dubai’, The Underground has come up as one of the liveliest, spirited places to watch matches in the city.
Habtoor Grand Beach Resort & Spa, Dubai Marina (04 399 5000).
Bidi Bondi: Perhaps the most pretension-free venue on The Palm, Aussie-themed Bidi Bondi serves up decent slices of drinks, food and atmosphere.
The Palm Jumeirah (04 427 0515).
Time Cafe: Boasting an incredible 50 plasma screens and two video walls, we’re convinced Time Café must be the sport lovers best-kept secret in Dubai.
Ramee Royal Hotel, Karama, near Al Maktoum bridge Dubai (04 334 4088).
Loca: This Latin-American bar is a favourite with many sports fans for its lively atmosphere, thanks in part to the help-yourself hops spouts at many tables.
Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa (04 346 1111).
Barrels: With TV screens of varying sizes in plentiful supply at this intimate sports bar, if it’s on air, you can watch it. What’s more, super-attentive service means you’ll never be waiting around for your next drink to appear.
Majestic Hotel Tower, Bur Dubai (04 359 8888).
Locker Room: The Locker Room's sporty credentials are there for all to see. Eleven screens show a dizzying array of sports seven nights a week, walls are adorned with replica kits and regular punters move between pool tables and dart boards. Tucked away in the quieter corners of Barsha, where there aren't too many places to watch live sports on a weeknight.
Golden Tulip, Al Barsha (04 341 7750).
Goodfellas: Make sure you call ahead to book a table at this Bur Dubai sports bar and you're unlikely to be disappointed. Forget to do so and you'll be cramped at the bar with the other part-time fans. Clear views of big screens, regular meal deals and promotions, a crowd that has come to watch the game and nothing else are all factors convivial to a sports bar which make this a lasting favourite.
Regal Plaza Hotel (04 355 6633).
The Huddle: Cricket bats and club ties adorn the walls of this charming pub, should you be any doubt that you are indeed in a sports bar. Small bar + big screens = good views from all angles. Reasonably priced hops and decent bar food: what more do you need to watch the match?
CityMax Al Barsha (04 409 8000).
Nezesaussi: Kind of like a Hard Rock Café for sports, this is less a place to watch the game and more a monument to sport itself, lined with signed shirts and paraphernalia. The infamous breakfasts and burgers rank among the best bar food in Dubai.
Al Manzil Hotel (04 428 5888).
