One more family-friendly destination has just popped up in Dubai and it promises everything from farm animals to food trucks.
Families visiting the New Meraas destination The Yard, which includes Last Exit D89, can hang out at the rustic courtyard, enjoy the lake, brisk-walk through shaded trails, relax at the picnic area, and – of course – eat and go shopping.
The Yard’s new 350,000-square-foot extension has just opened, with developers planning for it to eventually grow into a 2.8 million square-foot urban destination.
The most recent additions to The Yard include an organic farmers’ market, a bakery, indoor and outdoor restaurants and dining spaces, and a lake spanned by two bridges.
Blending urban architecture with a rural farm environment, the new venue has some distinctive features including an 18-metre-tall windmill, water mill, wishing well, decorative vintage pick-up trucks, farm animals and bird houses – we know the kids will love these.
There’s also the Promise Bridge, where you can make symbolic pledges to your loved ones by attaching padlocks (i.e.: “I promise I won’t lose my mind over baby’s sleeping schedule”).
Now on to our favourites, the lazy features: The Yard has ample parking and drop-off points, plus 24-hour services and amenities, seven days a week.
There are also plans to host community events “that bring residents and visitors together to socialise, explore, learn, play, create and innovate”.
That’s our weekend plans sorted, we’ll see you there.
