All the WhatsApp features you need to know (to save you from embarrassing situations)

There’s more to WhatsApp than voicenotes

Think you know all the latest WhatsApp features?

Picture this… You sent an embarrassing message to your boss on WhatsApp and you accidentally deleted it ‘for me’ instead of ‘for everyone’.

In 2022, WhatsApp launched a feature, called “accidental delete,” which offers you a five-second window to let you reverse the action of deleting a message and instead, chose to delete it for everyone instead.

Did you also know that you can pin your messages?

Then in 2023, the messaging service launched this feature to save you time: simply pin an important message to the top of the conversation to prevent you from having to search for the same thing time and time again.

Just long-press on the message you want and click ‘pin’ – done. You can even change the duration, and pin the message for up to 30 days.

With this update, when someone accidentally taps the “delete for me” option in a WhatsApp chat, a message will pop-up asking if you want to undo the action. This message will appear at the bottom next to the delete message notification.

Take a look at the screenshot below. Simply tap on the “Undo” button, and your message will reappear in the chat.

The features works in both individual and group chats. It would be available on both iPhone and Android devices.

It then added the ‘disappearing messages’ feature in 2020.

Everyone around the world let out a collective sigh of relief when in 2017, when the messaging app introduced the ‘Delete for Everyone’ option so users could retract a message from all participants of a conversation in case they sent it by mistake.

Happy messaging.
