Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa
Time Out Says
The desert hotel – styled like an Arabian fort – is set just outside the city, which means it’s the perfect spot for a peaceful weekend getaway. Expect shaded courtyards, shadowy corridors and outdoor fire pits. That’s not to mention the sweeping vistas and cornucopia of wildlife roaming outside, including gazelles, birds and geckos. Altogether it makes for an unforgettable stay.
The rooms, many of them with terraces, are tastefully decorated with traditional fabrics and all boast stunning (sand duney) views.
There are plenty of restaurants, too, ranging from Indian eatery Masala to Al Hadheerah, where guests can experience authentic live music, as well as belly dancing and traditional camel and horse shows. That’s alongside the massive buffet of Middle Eastern dishes, of course.
There’s plenty to do at Bab Al Shams, with the hotel offering desert safaris, horse riding, archery, lawn games, falconry and a great kids’ club, too. And adults can chill-out at The Satori Spa, which offers a range of relaxing treatments.
The swimming pools, meanwhile, include an infinity pool, adult pool and a central pool, all of which have a view out across the sands, for a real desert experience. Don’t miss the swim-up bar, either, it’s a top spot to sit and chill-out at after a day exploring the desert.
