Time Out Says
Why we like it:• Great location in front of Baniyas Square Metro Station
• Within walking distance of the Creek and Gold Souk
• A new hotel with spacious and stylish rooms, and good quality facilities
Location: You can’t miss the hotel when exiting Baniyas Square Metro Station; it towers over the bustling streets in this busy part of Deira. Those seeking out the cultural side of Dubai will be hard-pressed to find a hotel offering a better location, with the Creek and Gold Souk just a couple of minutes’ walk away. Having a metro station on your doorstep makes exploring further afield extremely easy as well, with Al Fahidi Historical District only a few stops away.
Character: The modern-looking Hyatt Place stands out in the area with its blue and orange exterior, while at night it’s lit up in inviting warm tones. The sleek design continues inside with straight lines and a light colour scheme in the reception area and restaurants. Having only opened this summer, you can expect it to be clean and in top condition, with brand new facilities throughout.
Service: The hotel has a slightly unusual layout, in that the main entrance leads to an empty foyer from where you need to take a lift up to the main reception. The reception area is quite small, and usually appears to only have one member of staff on duty, which can sometimes mean a bit of a wait for check-in. But the staff are efficient and unflustered, even when busy. Throughout the hotel, everyone is friendly and helpful, making for a pleasant stay.
Rooms: The rooms are generously sized and perfectly comfortable. There are options available with huge king beds or twin beds. With low lighting and dark wood furnishings, the rooms are particularly cosy at night, while by daytime the large windows let in plenty of natural light. Some rooms offer views over the busy streets and small park in front of Baniyas Square station, which makes for an interesting scene at all times of day.
Restaurants & bars: The hotel is a little bit lacking in dining venues compared to some of the city’s other destinations. Gallery Café is the main eatery, where a breakfast buffet is served. Expect pastries and a few hot items such as eggs, chicken sausages and beans. The restaurant also serves a small selection of main meals throughout the day, which are hearty and well worth trying. There’s also a small area located off the lobby that serves drinks and snacks. If you’re after something a little stronger than a cappuccino, you’ll have to venture into the streets of Deira.
Facilities: On the top floor you’ll find an impressive gym stocked with a range of high-end equipment. The hotel also has a rooftop pool with sun loungers dotted around. It’s quite a small space, but perfect for an early morning swim.
Activities: The main draw of the hotel is its location near the lively souks and the Deira-side of the Creek. You can easily walk from the hotel through the Gold Souk, on to the Spice Souk, before taking an abra across the Creek to the Bur Dubai side, where you can explore the museums and Al Fahidi Historical District. The staff can help with recommendations and organising excursions to tourist destinations.
