Nightclub Velvet Underground shut

Club on site of former Elegante closed over ‘misunderstanding’

A brand new Dubai nightspot had been closed down less than a fortnight after opening.

Velvet Underground launched on the former site of Elegante, at the Bur Dubai’s Royal Ascott, in mid-December – but 11 days later it was forced to close after ‘its innovative entertainment policy caused some misunderstanding’.

It is thought the club’s raunchy dancers may have been the reason behind the decision. General manager Maarten van Boekel has pledged to re-open the club as soon as possible.
