Plan your next staycation at sea with Dubai’s new floating hotel

It will feature 224 refurbished rooms along with 13 restaurant and nightlife venues

Your chance to stay on a historic ocean liner without worrying if it has left port yet is finally here.

It has been announced that the 50-year-old ship Queen Elizabeth 2 will open as a floating hotel in Dubai later on this month.

The 13-deck hotel is now docked permanently at Port Rashid in Dubai. Just to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere, its two propellers are believed to be displayed at the hotel’s maritime museum.

It is believed the hotel will have a soft launch on Wednesday April 18, which will be followed by a more formal opening later in the year.

Rooms will start at about Dhs600, with a selection of deals expected to be offered during summer. The hotel recently launched a website, so get booking.

Queen Elizabeth 2 has 224 refurbished rooms and suites, 13 restaurant and nightlife venues, a shopping arcade and 25 meeting rooms and conferencing facilities.

Guests will enter the ship from the terminal, which has been turned into a maritime museum featuring artworks from the ship and showcasing its history at sea.

Dubai bought the ship back in 2007, but it is only now ready to be used as a floating hotel – which is sure to give it a lot more attention.

If you decide to give in and book your stay, the Gold Souk is close by for exploring. Make sure to check out our guide to the place (quick tip – don’t forget to haggle).
