Cinema Akil is hosting a German film festival and there’s something for the kids

Is your little one already showing a keen interest in cinematography?

If the answer to that is “ja” why not do something different and take them to a foreign film festival?

Quirky independent film platform Cinema Akil in Alserkal Avenue is hosting film festival “Straight out of Berlin”, which will feature eight contemporary films that showcase the ever-changing face of the German capital, and one of the featured films is for the kids.

Directed by Neele Leana Vollmar, the 2014 family-friendly film “The Pasta Detectives” is based on a best-selling children’s book.

The adventure flick is about two very different boys who form an unlikely friendship and become mini detectives.

Little Rico lives in Berlin with his mum, who unfortunately has little time to spend with him, but his loneliness soon changes when he meets Oskar. The new friendship is put to the test when they plan to meet and Oskar doesn’t turn up and Rico learns that his new best mate has been kidnapped and Rico manages to set him free.

The Pasta Detectives will be screened on Friday August 30 and Saturday August 31 at 4.45pm and tickets come in Dhs52.50.

It’s also worth going hungry, the independent cinema is catered for by Project Chaiwala, an authentic chai brewing company. The chai takes up to two hours to brew, so make sure you savour it. The food menu also includes the likes of chai toast with toppings including peanut butter and Nutella and chilli cheese - which featured on our best dishes of the year so far list.

Also, before you book yourself in for a German language course, it’s worth noting that the film will have English subtitles.

Is it nearly your little one's birthday? Stuck on ideas of how to celebrate? Well, the Novo Kidz “monster-themed” theatre is available for private hire and could be a top party option.
