If you’re looking for something for the kids to do next month, we’ve got you covered – from October 13 to 18, Sharjah is set to host its seventh International Film Festival for Children and Youth.
The annual event, organised by Funn (Sharjah Media Arts for Youth and Children), will see more than 100 movies screened at two cinemas in the emirate over the week.
It is hoped the programme of movies will “expose [today’s youth] to world cultures and promote peace, tolerance and global understanding of how people from different cultures, religions and backgrounds live together in this world”.
This year the event will focus on book-inspired cinema, after Sharjah was named by UNESCO as the World Book Capital in 2019.
As part of the week, there will be a number of competitions for the best movies in categories including best child made film, best UAE short and best documentary.
The prizes for child made and teenage films are Dhs5,000, while the best student film will receive Dhs7,000, and the director for all other categories will scoop Dhs10,000.
The films will be shown at either the Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre or the Cinemacity Imax ZeroSix, and you could find out more information about the event on the SIFF website here.
