Dubai’s Horizon English School has launched a state-of-the-art STEAM facility

Horizon English School has revealed a unique, state-of-the-art STEAM facility at its campus in Jumeirah, Dubai.

The cutting-edge amphitheatre has been specially designed to offer the students a fully comprehensive, unparalleled learning experience across the key subjects of science, technology, engineering, arts and maths (STEAM).

Already offering top-notch facilities, the British primary school, which is rated outstanding by the KHDA, unveiled the cutting-edge space at the start of the school year in September 2019.

Children have all the latest technology such as robotics, hydroponics and artificial intelligence, at their fingertips as well as access to a curriculum allows them to develop their confidence, critical thinking and problem solving skills, transferable to various different facets of their lives.

With a focus on making little learners from FS1 up to Year 6 future-ready, the innovative space promotes the idea that anything is possible and encourages collaboration, curiosity and creativity amongst all of the pupils.

In addition, 3D printers are installed on site that allow students to mass produce a range of exciting things as part of their curriculum programme.

Ian Wallace, Horizon’s headteacher is excited about the benefits the new facility will offer the students.

“Over the last 30 years, Horizon English School has always had the interests of its students at the very heart of what it does, and the new STEAM facilities at the school are testament to us continuing to develop new, exciting and enriching learning opportunities for our young learners as we enter the next 30 years of education,” Wallace says.

The STEAM facility is known as The Jamie McMillan Building after Jamie tragically passed away in Foundation Stage. Having faced numerous challenges in his daily life, the school worked closely alongside Jamie enabling him to enjoy many aspects of the curriculum alongside his classmates.

“It feels most appropriate to name the building ‘The Jamie McMillan Building’ as a tribute to someone who gave so much to his school community in his short time with us,” Wallace explains
