Sometimes a brunch comes along and gets it spot on for the whole family. And after an absence over the summer, The City Brunch at Hilton Al Habtoor City (highly commended in the Best Family Brunch category at the Time Out Kids Awards 2019) is back to wow us all over again.
Is anything different? There have been a few tweaks, most noticeably to the kids area where a slightly different setup makes the whole zone a lot more welcoming. The TV is still in situ, but is not such a main feature.
Slime-making and crafts are hosted by two creative ladies (though warn the kids not to deviate from the task at hand as that seems to be frowned upon).
The kids’ buffet is the perfect height for even the smallest diners to be able to load their own plates themselves, although parents, keep an eye on them as the sweets and deserts are equally as accessible. Plus it does give kids the chance to put things back from where they came if they conclude after a quick suck that actually the broccoli and the cucumber sticks aren’t that appetising after all.
Apart from bringing back the odd piece of “art work” and some pots of slime (mums’ worst nightmare), we didn’t really see them, which left us to concentrate on the incredible – and this is not in any way an exaggeration – spread.
The choice is mind-blowing, from lobster, oysters and mussels at the seafood station to dim sum, maki rolls and sashimi in the Japanese zone, there are 17 live cooking stations. And with over 40 desserts to choose from, those with a sweet tooth should save some room.
The staff are lovely too, managing to keep our glases successfully topped up without us noticing.
This brunch gets it right for the entire gang, so will definitely be a regular on our Friday feasting list. Plus we still have to make our way around all the stations, which is going to take a few visits.
Free (kids 12 and under), Dhs300 (soft drinks), Dhs425 (house beverages). Fri 1pm-4.30pm. HIlton Al Habtoor City, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 435 5577).
WHAT IS IT...

What the kids say
The kids’ area is okay, but I preferred the look of the buffet selection for adults, so loaded my plate up from there. I had duck pancakes, sushi, dim sum and some roast beef. The food was so good. I headed back to the kids’ zone for dessert because there is candy floss and cups of gummy sweets up for grabs.
We watched a film and made slime after we’d eaten all of our really yummy food.
I made slime and got my face painted. The best Friday ever!
