Christmas in Dubai 2019: Where to decorate a gingerbread house in the UAE this Christmas

Christmas is coming, and children aged five and up can get their creativity flowing and their fingers sticky at these Christmas gingerbread house decorating workshops across the UAE.

Crowne Plaza
Listen up little elves, Santa needs some help in his workshop. Set the kids to work to help Father Christmas fulfil his quota of gingerbread houses at the Crowne Plaza’s Brioso restaurant where they will be supplied with all the tools they need to carry out the mammouth task at hand – overseen by the baking experts to make sure they are all up to Saint Nick’s high standards.
Dhs59. Sat Dec 7 3pm-7pm. Salah Al Din Street, Dubai, (04 262 5555).

Fairmont The Palm
On Monday December 9 you can watch the hotel’s Christmas tree light up and, in addition to a visit from Santa, plus free Christmas treats, the little ones can get creative with a spot of gingerbread making. They can decorate their creations in any way they see fit – the more sweets the better is usually the way! And a cup of hot chocolate will keep their energy levels up while they do it.
Free entry. Mon Dec 9, 5pm-7pm. Fairmont The Palm, Palm Jumeirah, (04 457 3388).

Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights
Little ones rejoice because you are invited to help the master bakers at Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights decorate their life-size gingerbread house – yes, you heard it right. The hotel has a huge gingerbread house – in its lobby – that needs a bit of sprucing up and they are asking for your help. Enjoy a festive afternoon with sweet treats and plenty of prizes up for grabs, while you use your imaginations to go to town on the huge cookie home.
Free. Fri Dec 6, 4pm-5pm. 20th Street, Dubai Healthcare City, Bur Dubai, Dubai, (04 553 1212).

Hilton Dubai Jumeirah is bringing back its weekend-long Christmas Market, offering more than 20 festive stalls, Santa visits and plenty of seasonal dishes. A highlight will be the gingerbread house making stations where the kids can build their own masterpieces to ice, decorate and, ultimately, eat. The market will run at the JBR hotel from Friday December 6 until Saturday December 7 from 10am until 4pm, with the man in the big red suit dropping by from noon until 2pm.
Free entry, food from Dhs20. Fri Dec 6-Sat Dec 7, 10am-4pm. Hilton Dubai Jumeirah, The Walk, JBR (04 318 2319).

Jones the Grocer
There’s nothing like a spot of gingerbread house decorating to get everyone in the mood for Christmas. Jones the Grocer is hosting three festive masterclasses where little ones, age four and above, can unleash their creativity on a gingerbread house as well as make their own Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer brownies and cookies. All masterclasses will take place at the Al Manara branch of the popular Australian chain and the price includes all the ingredients and equipment the kids need to whip up their festive master pieces. In addition, all mini bakers get to take home a chef’s hat an apron and a certificate. A sweet start to the holiday season.
Dhs149. Various classes taking place every Saturday throughout December across Abu Dhabi and Dubai, (800 56637).

Okay, so they aren’t exactly making a gingerbread house, instead they can play in a real-life candied home! Which is clearly pretty cool. Kids will feel like Hansel and Gretel as they explore a life-size gingerbread house full of festive surprises – including chocolate, puddings, yule logs and more. The house is open from Tuesday December 3 until December 31 so there’s plenty of time to check it out. And not a wicked witch in sight thankfully.
Free. Tue Dec 3-Tue Dec 31. Daily 7am-11pm. Address Dubai Marina (4 888 3444).

Meliã Desert Palm Dubai
The hotel’s clever culinary team are planning to get little chefs into the festive spirit with a couple of classes about gingerbread house making. Children will be taught how to build a house as well as the best way to decorate them using icing and colourful sweets. They will then be able to take their mini models home to admire for the whole of Christmas – if they can stop themselves nibbling on it that is.
Dhs120 (per child). Aimed at groups of five children or more. Sat Dec 7 & Sat Des 21, 11am-1pm. Al Awir Road, Dubai, (056 681 6175).

For every adult who savours the festive high tea, one child will get an opportunity to decorate a gingerbread house absolutely free. Mums and dads can enjoy a sophisticated afternoon of lobster, cranberry scones and refreshing tea while Christmas tunes play in the background while the kids head to the gingerbread workshop to meet Santa and build their own mini homes with icing and sweets under the watchful eyes of the hotel pastry chefs. As an added treat at 4pm every day a door will be opened on the huge advent calendar to reveal fabulous presents. Let the countdown begin.
Dhs160 (adult including a glass of mulled grape), free (for one child), Dhs50 (additional children). Sun Dec 15-Thu Dec 19, 2pm-7pm. Wafi, Sheikh Rashid Road, (04 324 8888).

Ripe Market
One of our favourite markets is getting a festive overhaul throughout December. Ripe Market, at Dubai Police Academy Park in Umm Suqeim is throwing itself into the spirit of the holidays with heaps of Christmas activities for all the family to enjoy, including an opportunity to get stuck into to making both gingerbread men as well as gingerbread houses.
