Café review: Society Café

A spacious Instagrammable Jumeirah spot

Don’t write this spacious Jumeirah café off as just another eatery designed for the Gram because while Society Café and Lounge is unarguably pleasing on the eye – and the iPhone – the food tastes as good as it looks.

We rock up for breakfast with the kids in tow and sit in what is referred to as the outside area – an air-conditioned tent attached to the front of the café.

Children are welcome, but don’t expect a kids’ menu and, with no added extras to keep them occupied, bring the colouring books.
They share the buttermilk pancakes that are thick, fluffy, slathered in maple syrup and ideal for two little appetites.

The breakfast menu is split in two – with choices limited to a bowl of healthy ingredients or eggs cooked in a variety of ways – plus the pancakes.

The generously sized acai bowl, with sliced banana and agave bee pollen – it sounds healthier than honey even if it’s not – is a must-try and the homemade almond butter is worth shelling out the extra Dhs8 for.

A heartier option, the morning bowl, consists of some serious superfood with sweet potato, avocado, kale and wild grains all packing the nutrients in, plus a poached egg provides you with your protein hit for the day.

Coffee can be made with your choice of almond, coconut or lactose-free milk.

While service is efficient, it doesn’t come with much of a smile, but when the food’s this good and the setting this pretty, it doesn’t matter quite so much.

Do it for the gram – and the acai bowl.
