You could hear the collective sigh of sadness and nostalgia across Dubai when the long-standing Park n Shop precinct in Jumeirah – including Pizza Express – finally proved the rumours right and closed up shop in October.

End of an era aside, most of the outlets have gone for a new and improved version of their original selves in the adjacent
Al Ferdous complex, not least the family-favourite pizza and pasta restaurant.

Boasting an urban retro vibe with funky pieces of art work and graffiti adorning the industrial-style walls, the all-new, bigger and better branch of this Italian stalwart has already become a huge hit with Jumeirah residents.

Pizza Express fans will be pleased to hear that the menu hasn’t changed and the much-loved, specially-curated Piccolo menu (Dhs40 for a vegetable starter, pizza or pasta dish and choice of desert with the Nutella dough balls being the sweet treat of choice) is still on offer for the youngest diners.

A real highlight for the little ones is being able to don their own white chef’s hat – which they can decorate in their unique style – and apron before making their own pizzas at the mini pizza-making station.

Don’t miss the calamari rings and the grilled halloumi, which is tossed in a lemon butter sauce and covered with tangy, salty capers – delicious.

Pasta dishes (both meaty and vegetarian options) are packed full of flavour, but, you’re missing a trick if you don’t opt for a pizza.

The signature Calabrese pizza turns up the heat for those who like a spicy kick to their food, while the margherita bufala, loaded with cherry tomatoes, fresh basil and garlic is a classic, but a firm favourite. Tip? A drizzle of chilli oil finishes this off nicely.
A top option for a spontaneous supper with the kiddos.
Open daily 11.30am-11.30pm. Al Ferdous Complex, Al Safa 1, Al Wasl Road, Jumeirah (04 394 5616).
