Families can travel together in one car without fines

Dubai Police has clarified limits surrounding the number of passengers allowed to travel together in the same car.

In a statement put out through WAM, the Emirates News Agency, Dubai Police have confirmed that more than three people from the same family can travel together in a car.

Previously the driver of a car with more than three passengers could be fined Dhs1,000 for breaching social distancing measures. But Dubai Police has now clarified that members of the same family are allowed to travel together in the same vehicle.

“First-degree relatives are also exempted from the limitation and they can travel in the same vehicle even if there are more than three people,” said Brigadier Saif Mahir Al Mazrouei, Director of Dubai Police Traffic Department.

For non-family members travelling, the three-person limit, and fines, will continue in place until further notice as the city continues to enforce social distancing in a bid to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
