KHDA says Dubai schools scheduled to reopen in September 2020

Education authority yet to confirm what part e-learning will play in the new academic year

KHDA says Dubai schools scheduled to reopen in September 2020

Dubai schools are set to reopen in September 2020 according to a statement on the KHDA website.

Dubai’s education regulator – the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) – says that schools in the emirate are currently scheduled to reopen for the start of the new academic year, and we can almost hear the collective parental sigh of relief across the city.

However, while schools may reopen, the KHDA says that it can't, at this stage, confirm exactly what the reopening will look like and whether the date of the start of term may change.

Since schools closed in March, primary and secondary students have been working remotely with e-learning programmes taking the place of on-site education.

Earlier this month, the UAE Ministry of Education announced that distance learning would continue “for all education levels” for the remainder of the academic year, which finishes at the beginning of July.

However, the KHDA has since updated its website and explains it is doing all it can to get children back to school safely and as quickly as possible.

In the 'Frequently Asked Questions' section a statement reads: “We are working closely with our colleagues in the federal government, so that when a decision is made, it will be applicable to all schools in the UAE. We all hope to get schools open to students again as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

It also says that: “it‘s still unknown what form this will take or whether that will change”.
