Dubai Outdoor Show 2009

If your little tykes could give action man a run for his money, you need to check out the fit and feisty Outdoor Show

Yippee! The weather’s great and we’re all looking forward to spending our weekends in the great outdoors. If you’re looking to try something new and don’t know where to start, you need to head down to the new Outdoor Show 2009, an exhibition dedicated entirely to the world of outdoor entertainment.

Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre’s The Plaza – a new state-of-the-art outdoor exhibition area – from December 17 to 19, it promises to be the perfect pre-Christmas pastime for sport-mad kids and parents alike. With a massive array of equipment and hands-on demonstrations in diving, mountain climbing, paragliding, archery, amateur flying and information on action-packed adventure holidays, there is something for everyone.

Plus, kids will have the chance to get stuck into all sorts of activities that let them explore their more adventurous side, including an abseiling wall and climbing wall, a demonstration diving tank as well as the BBOY Middle East Dance Championships. For squabbling teens with too much energy, a battle of paintball could be the answer to your prayers, while the wall-climbing stand will channel your little monkeys in the right direction.

If the festive season is accompanied by the inevitable barrage of requests for a new bike, ‘a kayak like all my friends have’ or ‘the latest skateboard – cos mine’s rubbish’ – then there’ll be plenty of opportunity for mums and dads to try before they buy.

‘The show is the first and only complete outdoor adventure and sporting event of its kind to be held in the UAE,’ says Trixee Loh, senior vice president at Dubai World Trade Centre. We say, don’t miss it. Entry to The Outdoor Show, which is open from 4pm to 10pm, is free for under 12s, while adult tickets are priced at Dhs20. If you want to visit the 10th Anniversary Dubai International Motor Show, which is running from December 16-20 at an indoor exhibition area at The Dubai World Trade Centre, you can pay Dhs50 for a ticket that gets you into both events.
