EDITOR’S PICK Get your glad rags on at Fun City
Don’t miss Fun City’s annual dressing-up competition at all its outlets throughout the UAE. Little Spidermen, fairies, pirates and more will be doing their best to win prizes across several age categories (for kids aged two to five, six to eight and nine to 12). Just register your little role-players 30 minutes before the competition is due to be judged. See the Fun City website for more info on locations and times.

Beads and baubles at ARTE

The city’s favourite indoor arts-and-crafts fair is back this weekend, and this time it’s at Festival City. If you’re looking for a perfect gift that has an artisanal, hand-crafted look, then take your time to wander through the stalls. It’s also next door to Ikea, so you can pop in for a bite and a runaround in the revamped play area.
Free. Noon-9pm. Dubai Festival City.

Saturday 2

EDITOR’S PICK FREE! Check out the stalls at Safa Park
Yes, its flea market weekend in Dubai – and you really are spoiled for choice. If you have a nose for a bargain, or you just want to get rid of some baggage (it costs Dhs250 to book a stall), this is the place to be – you can really make a day of it. Let the little tykes loose on the play areas while you browse to your heart’s content.
Free. 8am-3pm. Safa Park, gate five, Jumeirah,

FREE! Go bonkers at the boot sale
The perfect place for petrolheads to potter about – the boot sale is at Dubai Autodrome, where there’s always loads of high-combustion fun. Either hire a spot at Dhs150 per car and get their early (by 8am) or just browse other people’s wares. A great way to spend a sunny spring morning.
Free. 9am-12.30pm. Dubai Autodrome, near Arabian Ranches,

Sunday 3

It’s Mothers Day (again)
Yes, we know it was UAE Mother’s Day a couple of weeks ago, and today it’s UK Mother’s Day. For those who don’t know, this day has been kept special for British mums since the 16th century. So, mums, treat yourself to something nice, be it a coffee with friends, a pedicure or just putting your feet up while the kids cook the dinner (and wash up). Get hubby to fork out for a spa voucher too, and if he kicks up a fuss, remind him that it’s Father’s Day in June.

Monday 4

EDITOR’S PICK Get a bird’s eye view of Dubai on Creek Park’s cable car
The peaceful 35-minute journey, which takes you from Garhoud Bridge all the way over to the floating bridge, is cheap and cheerful, and a real treat for curious children. You’ll get a fantastic view of Creek Park’s green and pleasant lands, as well as the creek itself. In a few weeks, those glass cabins will be getting mighty sticky (they don’t have A/C). But right now they’re just perfect.
Dhs15-25. 8am-11pm. Creek Park, near Garhoud Bridge (04 336 7633).

Tuesday 5

Oh, do behave!
If you find yourself saying these words to your children constantly, without them listening, why not try a parenting workshop? We recommend ‘How parents teach their kids to misbehave’, run by mum, former teacher and parent educator Therese Sequeira.
Dhs60. 8.30am. KidsFIRST Medical Centre, Umm Suqeim 3 (04 348 5437).

Wednesday 6

Make a mess at art class
Join a hands-on artistic workshop for mums and tots aged one to three. Get stuck into painting, tearing, scrunching, modelling and colour mixing and create your own mini masterpiece. 10am-11.30am.
Dhs90 plus Dhs20 for materials. Ductac, Mall of the Emirates (04 341 4777).

FREE! Get on your bike
Mushrif Park near Airport Road has a great cycle track that runs right through the park’s wildlife areas, enabling you to get back to nature as you cycle. The park is open 8am-10pm; entry is Dhs30 per car. Alternatively, hit the track at Dubai Autodrome every Wednesday for a free family biking session. Bring your own bikes and helmets.
Free. 6pm-9pm. Dubai Autodrome, near Arabian Ranches (04 367 8700).
