EDITOR’S PICK Rev up for the Cars 2 premiere
We admit we’re excited about this latest high-velocity animated adventure starring our favourite red racing car, Lightning McQueen. Mater returns too as his trusty sidekick, and the petrol-headed
pair have a rollicking adventure in Europe and Japan when they set off for the World Grand Prix. But things go awry when they get embroiled in some international espionage.
In cinemas across Dubai. See Film listings, page 78.
Cool off in the pool with movies in the moonlight
What better way to start the weekend than with a communal family movie at Dubai Polo Club? Tonight’s line-up features classic Disney animation Aristocats, screening at 7pm, followed by Futurama at 9pm.

Dive-In Movies at The Montgomerie
Tonight’s movie-night flick is brilliant fantasy film Stardust, starring Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer and Sienna Miller. But be warned: it’s not suitable for very young viewers as the witches can be a bit scary. Poolside munchies are available at additional cost.
Dhs45; free for kids under 12. 7.30pm. The Address Montgomerie Dubai, Emirates Hills (04 390 5600).
EDITOR’S PICK FREE! LazyTown at The Dubai Mall
Promising to be a big hit with kids, the cast of LazyTown, including Sportacus, Stephanie, Robbie Rotten and Ziggy, have flown in to keep up all amused until July 2. Expect all the usual antics (Sportacus and Stephanie outsmarting the evil Robbie Rotten) in the 25-minute show, with lots of singing and dancing, plus messages about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Free. See website for timings. The Dubai Mall, Downtown Burj Khalifa, www.dubaievents.ae.
Final family morning at Wild Wadi
Don’t miss your last chance to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy some high-speed rides at the ever-popular Wild Wadi waterpark. Getting there early at the weekends means you avoid much of the midday heat, the long queues and the crowds that usually start pouring in around lunchtime. Make the most of the regular cold thunderstorms and get a few dizzying rides under your belt – see if you can persuade dad to ride the scream-tastic Jumeirah Sceirah. Tickets are on sale between 7.45am and 9.30am, so go between 8am and 10am to beat the queues and stay all day.
Dhs170 (adults); Dhs135 (kids under 120cm tall). Wild Wadi, Al Sufouh Road, Jumeirah, www.wildwadi.com (04 348 4444).
EDITOR’S PICK FREE! Mr Men Show at Marina Mall
Enjoy a cracking live performance with lots of your favourite characters from childhood (and we’re sure the kids will enjoy it too). Yes, the Mr Men stage show is a 25-minute performance with plenty of dancing, singing, interactive moments and a few of those ubiquitous life lessons thrown in too. We’re personally hoping our favourite characters, Mr Bump and Mr Tickle, will make an appearance.
Free. See website for timings. Dubai Marina Mall, www.dubaievents.ae.
Mum’s Night Off at The Westin
Kids under 12 eat for free at Blue Orange, Spice Emporium, Hunters, Waves and Barasti. That thankfully means no cooking, no washing up, and no having to berate the kids for not eating their peas, pizza linguini, burger and so on, because they’ll doubtless find something to suit their picky palates among all those menus.
Prices vary. 7pm. The Westin and Le Méridien Mina Seyahi, www.thewestinminaseyahi.com (04 511 7136).
Fool around at Fun City
Book the little monkeys in for some serious fun and games. Fun City at Oasis Centre has everything you need to keep the tykes amused for hours, while you enjoy a relaxing shop and a cup of coffee. With
two separate areas, one for children aged one to seven, and another for kids aged under 15, you can also be assured that the play won’t get too rough-and-tumble.
Sun-Wed Dhs20-25 per hour; Thu-Sat Dhs25-30. Open Sun-Thu 10am-10pm, Fri-Sat 10am-midnight. Fun City, Oasis Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road, www.funcity.ae (04 339 7782).
