Spruce up the sprogs for school

EDITOR’S PICK TODAY ONLY Get Smurfed at The Toy Store
Are your nippers crazy for the little people in blue? If so, take them down to The Toy Store, where they can meet and greet the lovely Smurfette and the Clumsy Smurfs.
Free. 5pm onwards. Today only. The Toy Store, Mall of the Emirates (04 341 2473).

Get a Wiggle on!
Fans of those all-singing all-dancing Antipodeans can get their dose of The Monkey Dance by visiting VOX Cinemas at Mall of the Emirates. While the wiggly crew aren’t actually here in person, you can watch their circus-inspired show, The Wiggles Greatest Hits, which includes all their most famous songs. The kids are sure to love it.
Dhs30. Daily 9.30am, 11.30am and 1.30pm. Until September 30. Vox Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates, (04 341 4222).

Friday 9

Today only Build-a-Bear brunch for charity
Head to the Spintastic Brunch at the Hilton Jumeirah today, and the kids can join in a special Build-a-Bear workshop. Dhs10 from the sale of every bear on the day and Dhs75 from every brunch will go straight to local charity Dubai Cares. There’ll also be a Build-a-Bear fashion show and a chance for the kids to meet some furry characters and have their photo taken. Expect to leave with balloons, a goodie bag – and a bear, of course.
Dhs155 (adults), Dhs95 (kids aged seven to 11), free for kids under six. 12.30pm-4pm. Today only. Oceana, Hilton Dubai Jumeirah, JBR (04 399 1111).

NEW Le Petit Pascal Tepper
Little gastronauts will love the fact that this brunch comes with a lesson in bread-making. While mum and dad enjoy the Parisian-inspired menu, Junior will be taken care of by the enthusiastic pastry chef, who’ll help him create his own loaf to take home.
Dhs90 (adults), Dhs45 (kids aged six to 12), free for kids under six. Fri 10am-3pm. Ongoing. Pascal Tepper, Dubai Media City (04 454 2408).

Saturday 10

EDITOR’S PICK NEW Spruce up the sprogs for school
Are the kids looking scruffy after a two-month grooming hiatus? Snip them back into shape with a grooming session at Zen Asia Spa in JLT. For Dhs50, those aged 12 and under can have a haircut and mani/pedi (we’re presuming this is only for the girls), while boys can have their tresses tamed too. If your teen is in need of some pampering, they can also experience the teen package, which includes waxing, threading, and facial treatments for acne.
Dhs50-275. Tue, Wed, Fri and Sun 11am-9pm, Thu noon-10pm. Until September 30. Zen Asia Spa, Jumeirah Lakes Towers (04 457 2374).

LAST CHANCE Modhesh World
Yes, we know you’ve been meaning to pop in and see the yellow fellow’s indoor funfair all summer – and now’s your last chance. Modhesh World will be closing tomorrow, so if you want to explore the zones and try the fairground rides, today’s the day to do it. Airport Expo is huge, so if the kids are bugging you, just make them do a few circuits of this indoor theme park and they’ll soon be puffed out. Dhs15 per person, free for kids under three.
Open 10am-midnight. Until September 10. Dubai Airport Expo,

Sunday 11

EDITOR’S PICK Sharjah Aquarium
Submerge yourselves in a colourful, undersea world that’s home to more than 250 species. Like its big brother at The Dubai Mall, the Sharjah Aquarium also has a walk-through tunnel so visitors can get close to the action, discovering everything from the larger ocean creatures to the smaller marine life. And when you’ve finished, you can get a bite to eat at seafood restaurant Samach. Dhs20 (adults), Dhs10 (kids aged four to 17), free for kids under four.
Open Mon-Thu 8am-8pm, Fri 4pm-8pm, Sat 8am-9pm. Ongoing. Sharjah Aquarium, Al Khan Lagoon, (06 528 5288).

Monday 12

FREE! Meals for kids at The Westin
Kids eat for free at Blue Orange, Hunters, Spice Emporium, Waves and Barasti every Monday night during the Mums’ Night Off promotion. Enjoy a huge array of cuisines that will no doubt satisfy the tastes of even the pickiest eaters. Best of all, it means no cooking – and no washing up.
Adult prices vary. Mon 6pm-midnight. Until September 30. The Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort, Al Sufouh Road (04 366 7630).

Tuesday 13

NEW Back-to-school workshop for parents
Struggling with the early starts? Have you forgotten how to juggle the packed lunchboxes, PE kits and homework? Instead of lamenting the fact that organising your children is like herding cats, why not take a class with parenting whizz Therese Sequeira? The former teacher and mum-of-three’s back-to-school workshop is full of simple ideas that will make your life infinitely less stressful.
Dhs180 per person. 8.30am-10am. Today only. KidsFIRST Medical Centre, Al Wasl Road, (04 348 5437).

Wednesday 14

Movies and munchies until midnight
It’s almost the weekend, so why not take in a film at Desert Palm? The Movies and Munchies sessions have returned with lots of kid-friendly flicks to keep you occupied while you splash around in the pool. The early movie for kids starts at 7pm: this week it’s Shrek 4. Afterwards, mum and dad can kick back and watch Inception at 9pm.
Dhs30 per person. From 7pm. Ongoing. Desert Palm Dubai, near International City, (04 323 8888).
