Discover Barmy Britain
Fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the latest hilarious Horrible Histories show, Barmy Britain, is back in Dubai this month. Suitable for kids aged six and over, it’s a tongue-in-cheek, gross-out but nonetheless very educational look at loathsome London, from why the Romans never won MasterChef, to Guy Fawkes versus Parliament. Who knew learning could be this fun?

Get moving at DanceFit
Located on Sheikh Zayed Road near Dubai Garden Centre, DanceFit has a fun range of kids’ classes for all ages. Our favourite to try is Zumbatonic – suitable for ages five to 12, its high-energy, kid-friendly routines include hip hop, reggaeton and cumbia, and are designed to encourage self confidence, and enhance coordination and overall fitness levels.

Don’t miss The Gruffalo
Catch the final performance of Julia Donaldson’s beloved tale of The Gruffalo at the First Group Theatre – the three-day run kicked off on Friday October 11. When a little mouse journeys through a deep, dark wood, he invents a terrifying creature to fend off the scary animals he encounters on the way. Guaranteed to delight three- to five-year-olds, it’s a musical lesson in helping them to conquer their fears.

Learn some magic at Little Explorers
Mirdif City Centre’s Little Explorers runs monthly fun and educational workshops for little ones, where kids can be dropped off for a 30-minute session, followed by an hour’s supervised play in the five ‘edutainment’ zones. This month’s theme is all about magical tricks and top hats.

Get your tickets for the Harlem Globetrotters
The world’s most famous basketball team, the Harlem Globetrotters will be wowing audiences at Dubai Tennis Stadium in Garhoud on Thursday October 25 and Friday 26. Renowned for their ball-handling wizardry, they’ve showcased their skills in more than 120 countries over the past eight decades, and this family-friendly show is not to be missed.

Buy tickets for Barney in Abu Dhabi
Who knows exactly why kids go bonkers for Barney the big purple dinosaur? Avoid tears and tantrums by buying tickets in advance for his Abu Dhabi show, which will be on stage at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from Thursday October 25 to Saturday 27. He’ll be joined on stage by his chums BJ, Riff and Baby Bop.

Watch Hotel Transylvania at the cinema
Another spooky release in the run-up to Halloween, these days Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) runs a hotel where monsters can get some R&R. After throwing a huge VIP monster bash for his daughter Mavis’s 118th birthday, an unexpected human guest turns up, which means Dracula has to do everything in his power to stop Mavis falling in love with him.

Join a Funky Fireflies class
Try out a kids’ yoga class at Yogalates Bliss, which offers lessons at Fraser Suites on Sheikh Zayed Road. Suitable for kids aged four to eight, instructor Mandy’s classes incorporate traditional yoga moves with fun, games, role playing, singing and dancing. Mums and dads of Funky Fireflies members will also get a 20 percent discount card to use in the Aqua Café next door, as well as a Dhs70 special day-pass rate for use of the gym facilities, pool, steam room, tennis court and squash court during Funky Fireflies classes.
