Family fun in Dubai

Hello Kitty spa, penguins in the park and more fun play dates

Wednesday 17

Editor’s pick Paint those claws at Hello Kitty Spa
If you haven’t yet checked out Dubai’s most kitsch beauty salon, now’s the perfect time to book. The only Hello Kitty-themed salon in the world offers kitty-themed treatments for ladies and children, with children’s packages ranging in price from Dhs45 to Dhs90. The products are all organic and super-safe for little ones, and what little girl could turn her nose up at a Kitty Glam facial, or a Kitty-Cure mani? The salon café also serves kitty cupcakes.
Kids’ treatments Dhs45-90. Open daily 10am-8pm. Ongoing. Jumeirah Town Centre, (04 344 9598).

Thursday 18

Pick up a penguin at Ski Dubai’s Snow Park
Ski Dubai is home to a merry band of king and gentoo penguins, enabling visitors to meet these happy little creatures and learn more about the species. All the penguins were bred in captivity, so are more than happy to be hugged by eager kids.
Dhs175 per person for penguin experience; plus snow park entry of Dhs120 (adults), Dhs110 (kids). Open daily Sun-Thu, 1pm-9pm, Fri-Sat noon-9pm. Ongoing. Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates, (800 534 7873).

Take a turn on the ‘iceless’ ice rink at Arabian Centre
The Arabian Centre near Mirdif boasts a cool experience for novice skaters: it’s made from ‘synthetic ice’ which is 10 percent less slippery than regular ice (meaning less tumbles for the tots) and isn’t cold to the touch. The facility is also perfect for our desert climes because the rink doesn’t require huge refrigeration units to maintain it.
Dhs25 for a two-hour session plus skate hire. Open daily 10am-10pm. Ongoing. Arabian Centre, Mirdif, (04 284 5555).

Friday 19

Editor’s pick Brunch at St Moritz
Build up an appetite on a Friday morning by spending three hours on the slopes at Ski Dubai bonding with your family (and practising your snow ploughs), then head to St Moritz Café for a weekend family brunch at the après-style carvery. Pick up your ski pass at the Ski Dubai ticket office.
Dhs200 per person. Fri 10am-4pm. Ongoing. Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates. (800 386).

The petting zoo next door also houses camels, ponies, cows, sheep and donkeys.

Scale the Sky Trail at Playnation
Kids with heaps of energy will love this daring climbing activity, suspended in the air above Magic Planet. Using a series of ropes and rope ladders, kids can make their way around the trail, which has various challenges to overcome. Once you’ve tackled that, how about a spot of climbing on the specially designed wall?
Dhs70 (Sky Trail); Dhs50 (climbing wall); Dhs100 (both activities). Open daily 10am-midnight. Playnation, Mirdif City Centre, (no number).
