Doran Davies and Ross Milton speak to Time Out Kids about the BOUNCE free jumping revolution in Al Quoz.
Tell us a little bit about yourselves
Originally from Australia, I have been living in Dubai for two years with my wife and my daughters. I was previously at Mars as Global CFO Food Group before I opted out for a life of fun and fitness at BOUNCE.
I’m a proud Welshman and father of two and have been in Dubai for two years. I was previously working HTC Operations Officer before I decided to ditch the suit and free-fall into the BOUNCE Free Jumping Revolution.
When did you open BOUNCE and what has the response been like from families in Dubai?
BOUNCE opened June 4, 2014, and the response has been awesome! Families love it because everyone can get involved regardless of skill level and it is a great way to have fun, stay fit and really develop core skills such as balance and coordination.
It’s a pretty unique concept. Where on earth did you get the idea from?
The phenomena started in Australia more than three years ago, launching the free jumping revolution. Giving people of all ages the chance to experience the euphoric rush of flight that they couldn’t get anywhere else, BOUNCE was born combining the founders love for trampolines, free running, basketball and basically anything that gives you that same adrenaline rush. Here in Dubai people love to be active and have fun and we are giving them a safe environment to have unrivalled amounts of fun.
What’s on offer for kids?
We cater for just about every age from three years onwards. We have a massive free jumping arena, dodge ball courts, big “Hollywood” air bag, slam dunk and high performance trampolines combined with a wall that has to be seen to be believed. We also have specific sessions especially for the little ones known as Junior Jumpers and Mini Bounce, where the younger children get to BOUNCE away from the bigger guys. The other thing is birthday parties – which have proved to be insanely popular, with us hosting anywhere up to 30 parties each weekend.
Do they need to bring anything with them when they visit BOUNCE?
Anything comfortable for jumping around.
Who supervises the kids?
Safety is our number one priority, from the awesome design of the venue to how we train the BOUNCE Crew. We take a proactive approach to safety, making sure that everyone understands the safety rules, customers will hear ‘one person per trampoline’ plus the other rules a lot at BOUNCE and of course all of the team are first aid trained.
The BOUNCE crew are great with kids, some are big kids at heart, from hosting exciting parties to running the Mini BOUNCE sessions. The kids respond well and often give the BOUNCE crew a big hug to say thank you! That’s what’s special about what we’ve created here.
How do you both juggle running BOUNCE and being parents?
Actually it’s pretty easy, they love to come to BOUNCE, so we spend some quality time together just bouncing around!
Is it difficult keeping your kids away from BOUNCE? The Time Out team would want to be there every day!
Yeah it’s great fun. Doran’s son is only three, he asks every day about coming to BOUNCE. It’s great that he loves bouncing around, apart from being awesome, it’s great exercise and he learns a lot. He’ll be better than his dad very soon.
What’s been the best part of starting BOUNCE? And do you have any other exciting plans in the pipeline?
The best part of BOUNCE is seeing the excitement on everyone’s faces, lots of smiles and laughs, we love the fact that customers keep coming back!
Due to popular demand we will soon launch BOUNCE FIT, an exercise class that will give you an epic cardio workout. And Dubai goes crazy for Dodgeball, so we will hold a last man standing tournament in September. Right now we are busy planning our AFTER DARK nights where the coolest DJ’s will play some awesome tunes to BOUNCE the night away to.
Can parents join in the fun too? What are the fees?
Everyone can join in and have a go, let the BOUNCE crew look after the kids and BOUNCE around yourself!
