Birth Zone holds prenatal education retreats and events to empower women and their birth partners, so that they can become active participants in their birth experience.
Many people have lived in the UAE for some time, but becoming a parent means entering a completely new world. If you don’t have friends who are already parents, it can feel very isolating.
People have moved here from all over the world, leaving their extended family and friends behind. By connecting pregnant women with each other and with local specialists, I hope to help families build their supportive network here in the Emirates.
Located at the Anantara Resort and Spa on The Palm, Birth Zone held taster session screenings and its first three day retreat.
Two of the days were women only groups and on one of the days, birth partners joined in, to learn how best to support a woman during the birth process and postnatally.
All residential packages include:
• Valet parking and welcome drinks.
• A beautiful Premiere Lagoon View room for two nights (upgrades available).
• All beverages, snacks and main meals.
• Minimum of two detailed seminars per day (including Birth Physiology, Childbirth Options, Breast Feeding, Baby Massage, and more).
• Optional daily antenatal exercise class, including prenatal yoga, water aerobics and belly dancing.
• An Elemis Mother-to-be massage.
• Birth Zone yoga mat and birth ball.
• Exclusive Birth Zone Gift bag, including samples and offers from Palmer’s Cocoa butter, SensAsia Urban Spas, Urban Energy Fitness, Luxe Little and many more.
With all this and more, Birth Zone retreats are excellent value for money and are an efficient and in depth way to prepare.
I want to give a cross-section of all that is available to women in the UAE, so that they are introduced to subjects and services that they may not have come across before. They can then explore which topics interest them and this will enable them to consider their preferences in advance.
For example, there are lots of things that women and families can do to minimize risks to themselves and their babies throughout pregnancy and birth, but it is common for them to feel powerless. If we can equip them with tools and confidence, it can make a world of difference to how they process their experience and how they go on to parent.
Knowledge about their bodies gives women the confidence to make their own informed decisions, so that their care providers can do things ‘for’ them, rather than ‘to’ them. Women are all too often left dissatisfied with their first birth experience, which motivates them to prepare more fully and advocate for themselves the second time around.
The media portrays birth as being a scary and dangerous event. Birth Zone events are a great opportunity for people to see another side to birth. Rather than coming away afraid, people will be introduced to the concept that birth is something that they need not be saved from, but that they can be actively involved in.
All of the professionals involved in the events have been hand selected to reinforce this positive perspective and will bring their experience, passion and knowledge to share with the participants.
The retreats offer a safe space to regain balance; to continue the physical, intellectual and emotional work of effective birth preparation.
Victoria says “Being in Dubai has inspired me to think big, so we have some exciting plans in the pipeline to revolutionize how parents connect and access information”.
Non-residential, upgrade packages and discounts for sharing a room are available for the retreats. For more information or to book your place at the next event visit www.birthzone.ae or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
