There is a special bond between children and their bikes that can never be broken, says Simon Howison, director of the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge. He says riding a bike is a rite of passage for children. Bikes represent fun, freedom, and being outdoors and cycling is a healthy pastime that kids will never outgrow. In a safe environment, cycling can boost a child’s spirit of adventure and increase independence without them having to go far from home.
Being the master of their own vehicle can provide children with great happiness and energy. For those who are not interested in the outdoors or getting onto the sports pitch after school or at weekends, cycling may just be the answer to them getting the exercise they need.
As technology advances, it’s much easier for kids to stay indoors, but parents must emphasise the benefits of getting outdoors, Howison says. “With the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge taking place on Friday December 11, now is the perfect time to start getting your children involved in the cycling season.”
Juniors can get involved in the big cycling weekend next month, with its dedicated 15km and 30km Junior Rides scheduled to take place on Thursday December 10.
“Come along and we will show you everything you need to know about cycling in Dubai,” Howison says.
