Carry on the New Year celebrations with all things singing and dancing, and treat littles ones to see the ever-popular Beauty and The Beast musical. Hitting the stage here in Dubai, the Disney performance features the stars of the hit Broadway show, Mark Beyer and Briana Rapa. Time Out Kids caught up with the pair to find out what they were enjoying most about being on tour in the UAE. “It’s all been amazing,” says Beyer. “We’ve been to so many places and met so many people. I’d never left the United States before this and here I am now in Dubai. I’ve been to Lebanon, too! And Taipei! It’s been absolutely incredible.” Rapa says she’s coping (just) with all the hectic costume changes a princess requires. “The yellow dress is always a bit alarming,” she explains. “We discovered you can get an extra person in there and that means that you have to be pretty careful when you’re in it. When we’re doing our waltz and things, I have to be pretty careful not to tread on it, or trip on it.”
The musical tells the magical story of Belle, a young girl who is unhappy with life in the small provincial French town she lives in.
Her misery is made worse having to constantly fend off the misplaced “affections” of conceited but handsome Gaston. The Beast is a prince who was placed under a nasty spell to cover up his charming good looks until he finds true love, which will break the horrible predicament. There are talking clocks and candlesticks, and no end of catchy songs to get you on your feet.
A love story like no other, and a treat for mini-Belles and their mums and dads everywhere, little ones can even dress up for this family fun show.
Tickets start from Dhs250. 11am, 4pm and 9pm, Jan 6-9. Dubai World Trade Centre, for more information, visit www.TixBox.com (056 675 68 34).
