Superhero Brunch at Mazina

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a family meal, with special powers…

Food, Brunch

Iron Man and Spider-Man are having a dust-up on a bouncy castle. Supergirl is wrapping up two laughing victims head-to-toe in toilet paper. And, in the corner, someone is doing something explosive-looking with balloons.

This is just the staff we’re talking about, by the way. The kids are really going bananas.

Welcome to the Superhero Brunch, which takes over the all-day dining spot Mazina (where all its staff are in fancy dress) every Saturday, and in doing so has answered many parents’ brunch quandaries in a single, spandex-clad solution. Whoever’s idea this was is due a substantial payrise. Or the Nobel Peace Prize.

Let’s face it, family brunching can be a hit-and-miss affair – finding one for everyone often feels like a pipedream. Which is why we’re delighted to report that this one is not only a judgement-free zone – no disapproving glances from fellow diners over the foie gras terrine here – but also fantastic quality and bonkers fun.

Adults can choose from a vast array of dishes, with the delicious hand-carved roasts, fresh sushi and aromatic curries being particularly recommendable; while the kids have their own corner, piled high with finger-food staples like sandwiches, chips, nuggets, chunks of veg and carrot cakes. There’s also some quinoa going around, too, if anyone’s fussed.

But what elevates all this into such a delightful Saturday afternoon is the experience. With face-painting, magicians, that (indoor) bouncy castle, a competition for the best superhero-dressed kid, and even child-minders on hand to keep an eye on it all, this is that perfect thing: a brunch that caters impeccably to each and every one of you. Kaboom!
