Gingerbread goodies

Amy Mathieson takes a bite out of the festivities at The Address Dubai Marina

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, or so the song goes. As everyone with kids knows, there’s nothing greater than watching your little one’s smiling face on Christmas morning. Unless, of course, you’re released from the task of cooking Christmas lunch. Then it’s even better.

However, sitting through a long family feast could be testing to some over-excitable sprogs eagerly awaiting Santa, so that’s where The Address Dubai Marina comes in. The family-friendly hotel is putting on a Christmas Day lunch, where you’ll find this gingerbread house, which is sure to be a distracting highlight among your clan. All edible and cutely decorated, it is part of a buffet served on the big day. Of course, there are all the usual suspects − turkey and the obligatory trimmings − but it’s this sugary, gingery delight that looks almost too good to eat (we said “almost”).

The Constellation Ballroom will be getting a wintery makeover for the occasion and, if you can tear your kids away from the dessert table long enough, there’s also a magician there to entertain them.

On Boxing Day (if you have enough energy and/or your clothes still fit), Mazina, famed for its award-winning Superhero brunch, is putting on another feast. The best news? Kids under six eat for free at both. Pass us an edible Santa, will you?
