Inn The Park Dubai

Neighbourhood hangout is the perfect place to drop in for a family supper

The smallest member of our tribe is mesmerised by nature, so finding a quiet neighbourhood park where he can happily explore with a giant magnifying glass makes for a relaxed afternoon. And, after a few hours swinging and sliding our way through Al Khazzan Solar Park, we are ready for some grub, which is where Inn The Park comes in.

Brought to us by the same people as Bystro, the cute café is almost hidden behind a huge tree. Its rustic picnic tables and relaxed vibe is just the right place for our hot and hungry gang. You can choose to sit inside, or outside on the veranda overlooking the park. We choose the latter (naturally) and, as the little ones dart around, we settle ourselves in to study the menu.

You might think the scale of this (tiny) café means it can offer up only the simplest of fare, but don’t be fooled. The menu boasts all-day breakfast options, like boiled eggs and soldiers, as well as crispy salads and sandwiches.

As it’s only been open a relatively short time, there are still some teething problems in the kitchen. The hot mains, for example, aren’t available on our visit (we vouch to head back to try the mushroom barley risotto and the Southern crispy chicken in future).

On this visit, however, we give the Thai beef wrap a go and thoroughly enjoy the experience of munching our way through the crispy veg and tender meat, which makes our taste buds zing. The shrimp tacos are warm and satisfying, although a little on the tough side. And both dishes come with a side of hot and crispy chips.

Meanwhile, the kids tuck into the fluffy pancakes, which certainly deliver. They also knock back the freshly squeezed apple juice before scarpering off to roll down the grassy hill, while we sip our creamy lattes and decide that, basically, life is rather good.
