We head out to the world’s tallest building – the sparkling, glamorous Burj Khalifa – slightly nervous that this new brunch might not cater to a less-glam family with young children. We needn’t have worried.
As we step onto the swish rooftop terrace, the children are presented with ceramic plates to decorate and led off to sit in kid-sized chairs. As they’re busy, we gaze awestruck at the view and the glistening pool, enjoying the ideal for winter al fresco setting.
This Friday offering attracts a cross-section of Dubai’s brunchers, from couples to larger groups celebrating special occasions. We note only three families on our visit, and, we admit, it’s probably best to enjoy this one with a small family unit rather than with a boisterous gaggle of tots.
The buffet has a great mix of hot mezze, including the noteworthy lamb kibbeh and potato samosas. The salad section doesn’t disappoint, with its fresh sushi rolls, tuna niçoise and a quinoa and pomegranate salad.
Meanwhile, wandering around the hot mains is like taking a globe-trotting culinary journey. It boasts everything from a roast chicken dinner, to Chinese noodles and a succulent Middle Eastern grill. And, although we are initially disappointed with the small kids’ selection, the live pasta station soon wins us over. Crispy French fries and a side of Arabian flatbread also keeps them happy and full.
Dessert is served to the table and we devour the fresh fruit platter. Our fingers sticky from the medley of small cakes, we settle back to enjoy our mango juice and, of course, the sprawling city view.
We leave with a very happy seven-year-old already planning her next trip. But next time we’ll be bringing our swimmers to enjoy the free pool access, too.
Dhs295 (soft drinks), Dhs395 (house beverages), Dhs225 (kids eight to 12), free (kids aged under eight). Fri noon-4pm. Includes pool access. Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai (04 888 3900).
The bottom line
The kids give it their stamp of approval. Enjoy this one while the weather behaves.
