A new kind of party with big cats and a hip hippopotamus

Emirates Park Zoo parties

What kid (or grown-up!) doesn’t love a trip to the zoo? Now imagine rounding up their best friends and favourite classmates for a celebration to remember at one of the region’s top animal enclosures and you’ve got birthday party gold.

The place
Emirates Park Zoo, situated in Al Bahia, Abu Dhabi, is just an hour’s drive from Dubai and is home to more than 1,700 animals, including a Siberian bear, white tigers, lions, cheetahs and dozens of zebras. It has also recently opened a brand-new extension housing a hippopotamus, camels, sheep, goats and birds, making sure there’s plenty for everyone to see.

The package
The basic birthday package grants access to the zoo along with a private tour. It also comes with the opportunity to feed a selection of animals.

The food
For Dhs150 per hour, you can reserve a party zone in the Pearl Café or Bee Café, where a Dhs20-per-child food package will include hamburger or nuggets, plus chips and juice.

The cost
There is an entry fee of Dhs70 per child, which includes the private zoo tour and animal feeding for a minimum of 15 children. You can also opt to add on exciting extras, such as an African drumming show for Dhs300, a private magic show (also Dhs300), or reptile handling for Dhs50 per child.

The tips
Why not make a weekend of it and book yourselves into the Emirates Park Zoo Resort the night before the party? Get in some family time and the chance to explore the various zones before everybody arrives.

The verdict
A really different, great-value birthday party, with the chance to learn about some of the most exciting creatures on the planet.
